All of Thailand is happy to be able to celebrate the fifty ninth wedding anniversary of his Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and her Majesty Queen Rajawongse Sirikit. The happy couple was married in Thailand on April 28, 1950, the wedding was held at the Sra Pathum Palace in Bangkok.

 

 

 

The queen father was the Thai Ambassador to France. Young Bhumibol at the time was a student, studying in Switzerland. When he made a trip to the Thai Embassy in Paris and met his future queen, it was 1948. A year later July 19, 1949, the future King of Thailand became engaged to his queen to be, while at the Windsor Hotel in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Upon the happy couples returned to Thailand they married in a lavish beautiful royal marriage ceremony the Thai military forces formed to honor and salute the Royal Couple. It was unknown at the time but King Bhumibol would become the most loved King in the history of Thailand. Under his reign and guidance Thailand, would be transformed and enter the modern world. The Thai people would grow and prosper. And their King would be respected, by world leaders for his many accomplishments.

Within a week of the Royal marriage, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great made his ascension to the throne, becoming the ninth King of Thailand in the Chakri Dynasty with a Royal coronation on May 5, 1950.

 

 


Their Majesties have four children, HRH Princess Ubolratana, HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, and HRH Princess Chulabhorn.

 

We wish long life and happiness His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit.
